How it all began
Founded in 1921, Leamington & Warwick Operatic Society specialised for many years in presenting early English Operettas and Gilbert & Sullivan.

At the start of the sixties, with shows by the likes of Irving Berlin and Rodgers & Hammerstein becoming available for amateur companies to perform, and audiences being thrilled by the new Broadway musicals, there became a need for the society to change. As the early shows went out of fashion and the new ones came in, the audiences began to change.

Looking at our list of productions over the last forty years, LWOS has staged a very wide variety of musical shows, and it became apparent that the name 'Operatic Society' did not reflect the type of shows being staged. It was proposed, therefore, at the society's 2002 AGM, and agreed at the 2003 AGM, that the name of the society be changed to Leamington & Warwick Musical Society.
